This is a sound amplifier. It works very well for what it is – which is a sound amplifier. It’s not so powerful that it makes it hard to use, and it’s not so weak that you wonder what it’s for.
I bought this for my elderly friend who really needs something for her hearing but she is discouraged by the complaints she hears from friends who do have hearing aids.
I’ve been wearing it for a couple hours, myself, to test it out for her. It’s unobtrusive. It made it much easier to hear some things at first, including the noise made by turning pages of a book. By now, I’m used to it and there’s very little overwhelming trivial noise to bother me.
One thing I notice is that my own voice sounds clearer and closer to me as I speak. I think this would be very useful for someone who sings – it’s kind of like having your own private microphone.
Here’s an important handy hint: it kept slipping off my ear and I couldn’t figure out why. I finally wound a rubber band around the black flexible arm and that gives it the traction to stay on my ear. I don’t know why this was necessary but it is what helped me keep this in place.
